Positive Behaviour Support in Perth & across Western Australia

Person-centred support for NDIS participants, families and teams, helping you understand behaviours of concern, build skills, reduce restrictive practices and improve quality of life.

What is Positive Behaviour Support?

Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) is a person-centred approach that seeks to understand the factors influencing behaviour and develop strategies that improve quality of life. Rather than focusing only on reducing behaviours of concern, PBS works to understand the purpose of behaviour and increase wellbeing, independence, participation and communication.

Behaviour may be influenced by communication needs, environment, sensory differences, emotional regulation, health, relationships, skill development and access to meaningful activities. Understanding these factors lets support teams respond more effectively, with supports that are respectful, practical and sustainable.

Our Positive Behaviour Support services

Functional Behaviour Assessments

A Functional Behaviour Assessment helps identify why a behaviour may be occurring and what strategies are most likely to help. It may include interviews with the participant and support network, review of existing reports, observation across environments, behaviour data collection, and analysis of triggers and maintaining factors, leading to proactive, person-centred recommendations.

Interim & Comprehensive Behaviour Support Plans

Interim plans provide short-term guidance while further assessment is underway. Comprehensive plans follow detailed assessment and include proactive strategies, skill-building, environmental supports, response strategies and restrictive practice reduction where required. A good plan is practical, easy to understand and useful in real-life support environments.

Restrictive Practice Support

Restrictive practices restrict a person’s rights or freedom of movement and should be used only when necessary, authorised appropriately, and reduced wherever possible. We help participants, families and providers understand restrictive practices, recognise where they are being used, and work toward safer, least-restrictive alternatives that protect dignity, rights and quality of life.

Team training & implementation support

Face-to-face training for families and support teams on how to implement each participant’s behaviour support plan, so strategies are used consistently by everyone involved. Learn about training.
